Capstone Coach

Application Opportunities

We are no longer accepting applications for the Fall 2022 Capstone Coach role and we will not be hiring new coaches for the Spring 2023 semester. Please check back in March 2023 for Fall 2023 roles.

You may be a good fit for this role if you:
  • Have experience providing extensive written critical feedback to adult learners.

  • Are detail-oriented and motivated by task completion.

  • Read closely and follow technical, step-by-step instructions precisely.

  • Enjoy thought-partnering with teachers to help them identify work in their classroom that may be aligned to capstone expectations.

  • Like a fresh start each semester, with a new batch of candidates.

Context

As the capstone of their degree, graduate candidates build a digital portfolio. The digital portfolio serves as a demonstration of a candidate’s understanding of the Transformational Teaching Paradigm outcomes and the InTASC Standards that guide and influence teaching.

The full, completed Capstone consists of the following five sections, focused on the Transformational Teaching Paradigm outcomes:

  • Framework

  • Advocacy

  • Access

  • Culturally Responsive Teaching

  • Dramatic Academic Growth

Capstone Coaches guide approximately 10 candidates through the building and refining of their digital portfolios. Coaches maintain regular contact with candidates and provide support. Coaches review drafts of the capstone portfolio submitted by candidates and give critical feedback and guidance for revisions to bring interpretations and evidence into alignment with the capstone rubric. At the end of each semester, coaches complete the final scoring for candidates in their coaching group.

Overview of Responsibilities
  • Assess candidates’ capstone portfolios, both initial drafts and final submissions.

  • Build relationships with the candidates in your coaching group.

  • Communicate with candidates both as a group and as individuals; the capstone is delivered in a course format and the coach is the instructor.

  • Communicate proactively with candidates and with the Lead Coach. Expected response time to emails is no more than 48 hours.

  • Provide a rubric markup, scoring, and written feedback for initial submissions of each capstone section. Feedback must be timely, thorough, and thoughtful, so that candidates know what revisions are necessary to demonstrate proficiency according to the capstone rubric.

  • Continue to support candidates through the revision process as they refine each capstone section to prepare for final assessment.

  • Thoroughly acquaint yourself with the Capstone Course in Canvas, including all rubrics and course tools.

  • Thoroughly acquaint yourself with the All Staff Site in Canvas, for the professional development and management of the coaching process. Regularly check in on the site for announcements and updates.

  • Participate actively in ongoing professional development, norming, and training sessions throughout the semester.

  • Track and report daily hours worked throughout the duration of the contract.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant field

  • Minimum 5 years working in education

  • Minimum 6 months of experience supporting students from a variety of backgrounds, and with diverse academic interests and abilities

  • Minimum 6 months of professional experience in teacher preparation and development work

Time Commitment and Compensation
  • Approximately 10 hours per week, occasionally up to 15 hours per week

    • Training period before working with candidates is approximately one month in length and 10 hours per week

    • The main body of the semester averages 5-10 hours per week. Coaches who return scoring and feedback quickly to candidates often alternate between high and low weeks (e.g., 15 hours one week and 3 hours the next)

  • $28 per hour
